Progress on Teacher Evaluation Criteria and New Senior Teacher Position

The Monitoring Committee for the new teacher evaluation system is working intensively to finalize the evaluation criteria and the job description for the new Senior Teacher position by the end of February. The documents have been given to educational organizations for study and submission of proposals. The committee has taken into account the initial proposals and is proceeding to shape the final criteria. The plan provides for the creation of the Senior Teacher position in all three levels of education, aiming to provide incentives for experienced teachers to remain in teaching and to take on mentoring duties for new colleagues. The position will have a salary scale corresponding to that of an Assistant Principal, without reducing teaching hours. The initial documents include indicative evaluation criteria for various categories of teachers, such as contract, indefinite, permanent, Senior Teachers, assistant principals and principals. The evaluation will take into account factors such as pedagogical competence, professional development and contribution to the school community. At the same time, the Municipality of Strovolos faces challenges due to the transfer of the building permit issuing authority to the EAC of Nicosia, resulting in a reduction in revenue. The mayor is seeking financial support for the municipalities for the maintenance of the road network and the inflationary adjustment of state grants.
