Cyprus Forest Roads Pose Threat to Mouflon Population

The Department of Forests and the Game and Wildlife Service are addressing a serious issue of mouflon deaths and injuries in the Paphos Forest, caused by railings obstructing their passage across roads. Over 60 dangerous locations have been identified where one-meter openings will be created to allow safe passage for the animals. Simultaneously, the services are collaborating to provide food and water to the mouflon, establishing watering holes and sowing crops within the forest to prevent them from venturing outside and causing damage. Another significant problem is the presence of stray dog packs entering the forest from the buffer zone, attacking mouflon, causing fatalities, and transmitting diseases such as echinococcus. The services will work with the Police to find a solution to the stray dog problem.
