Details of Granddaughter's Account of 72-Year-Old's Death Shock – "Was She Checked?"

The granddaughter of a 72-year-old woman who passed away at the Larnaca Hospital has accused the institution of serious failures in the medical care provided to her grandmother. According to the complaint, the elderly woman arrived at the hospital testing positive for coronavirus and was placed in isolation, but remained without medical examination for approximately five hours. The family attempted to contact the hospital, but initially received no response. When the patient was finally examined, a severe infection and sepsis were diagnosed, which, if detected earlier, could have been treated more effectively. She was transferred to an infectious diseases ward, where, according to the granddaughter, the doctor reassured the family that the situation was under control. However, hours later, her health deteriorated, and the family was unable to obtain updated information from the hospital. They were eventually informed of the elderly woman’s death, after previously having no information regarding her condition. The granddaughter expressed doubts about whether the scheduled checks were carried out and highlighted the large information gap experienced by the family. The family decided not to file a police report due to the procedures that would follow (autopsy, etc.), choosing to report negligence and dereliction of duty. The incident has raised serious questions about the organization and operation of the hospital, as well as the quality of care provided to patients. The deceased woman's granddaughter has called for an investigation into the procedures and accountability for what happened.
