Significant Step: US and Iran Agree to Exchange Drafts

The United States and Iran have made significant progress in indirect negotiations in Geneva, agreeing to begin working on potential agreement texts and to exchange those drafts. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that understanding has been reached on basic principles, allowing a transition from general positions to specific proposals. Both sides agreed to continue working on the text of a potential agreement and to consider holding a third round of talks. Despite the positive developments, Araghchi emphasized that issues remain open that require further negotiation. Additionally, the Iranian FM called for an immediate cessation of threats of violence from the US and referred to the potential role of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) as an intermediary. Simultaneously, Tehran temporarily closed a section of the Strait of Hormuz, while the US is deploying military forces in the region.
