Bill for Special Education Ready in Weeks, Says Education Minister

The Minister of Education, Sports and Youth, Athena Michaelidou, announced that the bill for Special Education will be ready in a few weeks and will be put to public consultation before being submitted to Parliament. The bill is part of a broader effort to reform the education system. Ms. Michaelidou emphasized that the Ministry has collected opinions from all involved parties, including parents, educators and associations. The priority is to create an education system that meets the needs of students with disabilities, placing them at the center of the educational process. The bill provides for individualized programs for each student, emphasizing pedagogy and strengthening the role of parents. The minister stated that there have been no changes in legislation for Special Education for 27 years, making reform necessary. At the same time, training for teachers on issues of differentiation and meeting individual needs is planned, as well as workshops and live participation in programs. The minister pledged a serious improvement of the system, with the aim of creating a more effective and inclusive environment for students with disabilities.
