Revised Housing Plans for Mountainous and Border Areas Come into Effect

The revised Housing Plans for mountainous, border, and disadvantaged areas have come into effect as of March 2nd, 2026. These Plans, part of the state's comprehensive housing policy, aim to provide financial assistance to citizens for acquiring their own homes in these areas, based on income criteria and family composition. From 2019 to 2025, 2,027 applications were approved with a total grant amount of €77 million. To make them more attractive, the Plans have been improved by increasing financial assistance for displaced beneficiaries, raising the maximum grant limit for the Rural Plan, increasing income criteria, and introducing additional family composition categories based on the number of children. This results in an increased maximum grant limit for large families. Furthermore, the maximum amount of financial assistance for special constructions in mountainous and disadvantaged areas, as well as in extremely mountainous and remote areas, has been increased. The requirement for a minimum period of continuous and permanent residence in the Republic for Cypriot citizens (repatriates and permanent residents) has been removed. Finally, applicants are given the opportunity to combine the Housing Plans with the Grant Schemes of the Ministry of Energy, Commerce and Industry for the energy upgrade of the residential unit. Applications are accepted until December 31st, 2027, at the respective Provincial Administration.
