Investigations Underway into Deadly Fire at Trikala Biscuit Factory

Investigations are underway to determine the cause of the deadly explosion and fire at the "Violanta" biscuit factory in Trikala. The Arson Crime Prevention Directorate has taken over the preliminary investigation and is taking statements from surviving workers. The most likely scenario is a gas leak inside the factory, possibly in the production area, and its ignition by a spark. The company had two propane and butane tanks that supplied the ovens. Fire Department officials are also considering the possibility that another chemical cause may have contributed to the incident, as none of the witnesses reported smelling anything before the explosion. Experts from Athens (electrician, chemist, pyrotechnician) have been appointed to submit their findings after the investigation. The investigations are being carried out in cooperation with a prosecutor, who has been at the scene of the tragedy since morning. The explosion was so powerful that it was recorded by security cameras 8 kilometers away.
