Safeguards for Farmers and Consumers in Cyprus Potato Trade Law Amendment

The Cypriot Parliament has approved an amendment to the law on the Trade of Cypriot Potatoes, with significant changes and safeguards for farmers and consumers. The amendment restructures the operation of the Cyprus Potato Trade Council (SEKP), maintaining its public character while allowing for the creation of a private law company to undertake commercial activities. Amendments introduced by the Parliamentary Committee on Agriculture ensure that the SEKP remains a public law entity, its decisions are valid, and it retains administrative autonomy. Additionally, provisions for transparency and control are strengthened for the operation of the new company, with the approval of its statutes by the Minister of Agriculture and the obligation to submit financial data to the state.
