Cypriot and Greek Ministers Discuss Security and Justice Cooperation

The Minister of Justice and Public Order of Cyprus, Kostas Fytiris, held a series of meetings in Athens with the Ministers of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy, Vassilis Kikilias, Justice, Georgios Floridis, and Citizen Protection, Michalis Chrysochoidis. The aim of the meetings was to deepen cooperation between Cyprus and Greece on security, justice, and law enforcement, as well as on social policies. With Mr. Kikilias, the possibility of signing a memorandum of understanding for the monitoring of maritime zones, the fight against smuggling and drug trafficking, the prevention of organized crime, and the exchange of information was discussed. Particular emphasis was placed on the creation of a Cypriot Coast Guard and the utilization of Greek experience. With Mr. Floridis, it was agreed to establish a permanent inter-ministerial committee to systematically monitor cooperation and effectively implement agreements. Mr. Floridis informed the Cypriot Minister about the reforms in the Greek justice system and the faster administration of justice. Furthermore, it was agreed that the Greek Deputy Minister of Justice, Ioannis Bougas, would visit Cyprus in February with a team of experts to exchange know-how on judicial reform and digital infrastructure.
