Rubio: It's in G7's Interest to Help Open Hormuz Strait

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that it is in the interest of the G7 countries to help reopen the Strait of Hormuz, reiterating US disappointment with its allies. He made the statement before departing for France, where he will meet with his G7 counterparts. Rubio referred to “progress” in negotiations with Iran, without providing further details. Meanwhile, President Trump criticized NATO and stated that Iran wants to negotiate more than the US. Rubio expressed the view that Russia is primarily focused on the war in Ukraine and is not providing significant assistance to Iran, while his French counterpart, Jean-Noël Barrot, stated that there is evidence of Russian assistance to Iran. Rubio's statement comes at a time of heightened tension in the region, following the US-Israeli attack on Iran and Tehran's near-closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
