War in Iran: Up to 3.2 Million Displaced – UN Warns of Worsening Humanitarian Crisis

Up to 3.2 million people have been internally displaced in Iran since the start of the war on February 28, according to data from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). For the agency, this estimate is based on preliminary assessments of households that have left their homes in various regions of the country. The UNHCR points out that these are initial figures that may be revised as data collection continues to determine the true extent of internal displacement. In its statement, the agency warns that the humanitarian situation may worsen further. “This number is likely to continue to rise as hostilities continue, signaling a worrying escalation of humanitarian needs,” says the UNHCR.
