Ukraine War: Zelenskyy-Macron Meeting in Paris

French President Emmanuel Macron will meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Paris tomorrow, focusing on increasing pressure on Russia and discussing a “just peace”. The French presidency announced that commitments from the “Coalition of the Willing” regarding security guarantees for Ukraine will be evaluated. Despite calls for a ceasefire, Macron remains cautious about a short-term peaceful resolution. The two leaders will discuss Russia's “shadow fleet” and French support for Ukraine. The Coalition of the Willing has agreed to deploy a multinational force to Ukraine in the event of a peace agreement, with US leadership in a ceasefire monitoring mechanism. Meanwhile, the G7 countries reiterated that there is no justification for easing sanctions against Russia, especially after Donald Trump's statements about potentially lifting oil sanctions. According to the Elysée Palace, Russia is in a state of “military, strategic and economic failure”. Finally, the US has proposed a new round of negotiations between Kyiv and Moscow next week, possibly in Switzerland or Turkey, while Russian envoy Kirill Dmitriev announced a “constructive” meeting with American negotiators in Florida, the first since the start of the war in Iran.
