Fire Service: 6.51% Increase in Fires and €134.5M in Damages in 2025

The Fire Service recorded a 6.51% increase in the total number of fires in 2025 compared to 2024, with financial damages amounting to €134,576,665, mainly due to the large fire in the mountainous region of Limassol. The burned area increased by 116.99 sq km compared to the previous year. Over 94% of fires are attributed to human factors, with the main causes being burning of vegetation, deliberate arson, burning of waste, and negligence. Despite the increase in fires, the Fire Service notes a decrease in wildfires during the fire season, due to prevention campaigns and stricter penalties.
