President: Goal is to Strengthen and Improve Healthcare Services

The President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, stated that the Government's focus is on strengthening and improving healthcare services for the Cypriot people. He made this statement during a visit to the offices of the Health Insurance Organization (HIO), where he was scheduled to discuss issues such as sending patients abroad, the actuarial program, and pharmaceuticals. The President emphasized that the Council of Ministers decided to make all air assets of the National Guard, including the government aircraft, available to citizens for emergency cases. The visit to the HIO, rather than requesting its members to go to the Presidential Palace, highlights the Government's approach to Education and Health issues. President Christodoulides described the GHS as a significant social achievement and reform, which requires continuous evaluation and addressing emerging challenges. The Government is committed to investing in the healthcare sector, considering it an investment rather than just an expense. The Chairman of the HIO Board of Directors, Stavros Michael, thanked the President for his visit and announced that pending daily issues would be discussed, as well as the current state of the health system and its short- and medium-term needs to ensure sustainability and quality of services. The meeting was also attended by the Minister of Health, the Deputy Minister to the President, and the Deputy Minister of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy, underlining the importance of cooperation to achieve the Government's goals in the health sector.
