President: Goal is to Strengthen and Improve Healthcare Services

The President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, stated that the Government's goal is to strengthen and improve healthcare services for the Cypriot people. He made these remarks before a meeting with officials from the Health Insurance Organization (HIO), where issues such as sending patients abroad, the actuarial program, and pharmaceuticals were discussed. The President emphasized that the Cabinet decision to make all air assets of the National Guard, including the government aircraft, available for emergency cases, highlights the importance of responding promptly to citizens' needs. President Christodoulides underscored the value of the General Health System (GHS) as a significant social achievement and reform, emphasizing the need for continuous evaluation and addressing emerging challenges. His visit to the HIO offices, rather than requesting its members to visit the Presidential Palace, is considered indicative of the Government's approach to Education and Health issues. The Government views investments in the healthcare sector as an investment, not merely an expense, as they directly affect the daily lives of citizens. The President pledged continued efforts to improve the provided healthcare services. The Chairman of the HIO Board of Directors, Stavros Michael, thanked the President for his visit and noted that the meeting would focus on addressing pending issues and strengthening the sustainability and quality of the healthcare system, both in the short and medium term.
