The President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, stated that he is attending the informal EU Summit with eight specific proposals to strengthen the EU's competitiveness, emphasizing that competitiveness is a key priority for the Cypriot Presidency and essential for enhancing the EU's strategic autonomy. He expressed hope that the Summit will lead to concrete decisions with timelines, as happened with defense and security. The President Christodoulides announced that he will meet with the Greek Prime Minister for an update on the meeting with the Turkish President, as well as with the Mediterranean EU member states for a common approach regarding the US President's invitation to a meeting in Washington. Cyprus has a particular interest in the issue of Gaza and submitted specific proposals in Egypt, during the summit with the US President, to implement aspects of the US President's proposal. The goal is to form a common approach to the level of participation in the Washington meeting. The President Christodoulides described the Summit as one of the most important of the EU, as it was convened following a joint letter from 22 member states, including Cyprus, to strengthen competitiveness.
