President of Cyprus: Cyprus is safe - It is not part of the problem

The President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, stated that Cyprus is not part of the problem in the Middle East, as it is not involved in the crisis and full normality prevails on the island, with the exception of an incident at the British bases. He emphasized the long-standing role of Cyprus as a transit station for the safe exit of nationals of third countries. President Christodoulides stressed that Cyprus is the only country in the region that maintains contact with all countries and seeks to utilize this role to promote security and stability. He also referred to the electricity interconnection project between Greece and Cyprus, noting that the European Investment Bank will undertake the updating of the studies. Regarding the prospect of Cyprus joining NATO, President Christodoulides stressed that no communication move will be made, as an application for membership would be rejected by Turkey. He stated that the government is doing the necessary preparatory work to be able to submit an application for membership with a positive outcome when the political conditions allow. Finally, the President of the Republic of Cyprus referred to the dialogue he had with the Greek Prime Minister after the attack on the British bases, emphasizing that the Prime Minister was the first to call him and that the sending of military aid from Greece “made history.”
