First Steps Towards BIM Adoption by SMEs in Cyprus

Cyprus has joined the EU BIM Task Group and is actively participating in the promotion of Building Information Modeling (BIM) methodology at the European level. The Scientific and Technical Chamber of Cyprus (ETEK) represents the country in the Group. Recently, ETEK hosted a workshop of the EU BIM Task Group on adapting BIM to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), which brought together representatives from seven countries. The purpose of the workshop was to explore ways to integrate BIM into SMEs, which constitute the largest part of the construction sector in Cyprus and the EU. Participants discussed solutions and formulated proposals for the effective adoption of BIM by small businesses and small-scale projects. ETEK has already established a Scientific Committee for BIM and has submitted a report on the application of the methodology to the relevant Ministries. The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works has stated that the adoption of BIM is a strategic priority and is considering a pilot application in public projects, as well as providing support to SMEs. The workshop highlighted the importance of digital transformation in the construction sector and the need for a more sustainable and resilient industry. The conclusions and proposals of the workshop will be posted on the EU BIM Task Group website, contributing to the promotion of BIM and supporting SMEs in Cyprus and Europe.
