Access to 1,512 Dissertations with One Click: What Changes with the Central Repository of Doctoral Dissertations

Cyprus is taking a significant step in organizing and disseminating academic research with the creation of the Cyprus Doctoral Dissertation Archive. The platform, which is already accessible, brings together over 1,500 doctoral dissertations from all Cypriot universities, allowing easy access to valuable knowledge that was previously scattered in institutional repositories. This initiative aims to address the problem of limited visibility and dissemination of research produced in Cyprus, as well as to connect academic knowledge with society, the economy, and the needs of the country. The Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs of the University of Cyprus, Tatiana-Eleni Synodinou, emphasizes the importance of the platform for transforming the research landscape. The project is implemented in collaboration with the Cyprus Libraries Consortium and is funded by the Cypriot universities, while the long-term maintenance and updating of the platform will be undertaken by the same Consortium. Responsible staff have been appointed in each institution to facilitate communication and the smooth operation of the archive. The goal of the platform is to fill the gap in the central registration of doctoral dissertations and to enhance the accessibility and utilization of research produced in Cyprus. The platform is expected to evolve further with the integration of information on dissertations in progress, making it a comprehensive tool for researchers, students, and the wider public.
