Defense Lawyer Expresses Intention to Withdraw from German Realtor Case

The hearing in the Nicosia Criminal Court for the case of the German real estate agent continued in a tense atmosphere, with the defense lawyer, Sotiris Argyrou, expressing an intention to withdraw from the case. Mr. Argyrou cited the enormous volume of evidence, which requires translation from German, and the serious procedural obstacles that make substantial preparation difficult. The lawyer emphasized that the three weekly sessions are insufficient to process the material, while the representative of the prosecuting authority rejected allegations of obstruction, arguing that a significant volume of translated documents has been submitted. However, she acknowledged that part of the material remains untranslated. After consulting with the defendant, Mr. Argyrou informed the court that his client does not wish to terminate the representation, temporarily removing the possibility of withdrawal. The proceedings continued with the testimony of prosecution witness Konstantinos Anastasiou, who presented evidence from mobile phone data extraction. It is recalled that yesterday the Permanent Criminal Court of Nicosia rejected the request for the release of the German real estate agent, ruling that no differentiating data has been demonstrated to justify her release. The defendant faces 46 charges of fraudulent transactions in real estate, illegal use of properties, and money laundering from illegal activities.
