President Christodoulides: Archipyrarchos Longinos to Serve as National Coordinator for Civil Protection

President Nikos Christodoulides announced the appointment of Archipyrarchos Nikos Longinos as National Coordinator for Civil Protection, until the relevant bill is passed by the Parliament. This decision is part of a broader effort to reform the civil protection sector, aiming to create a mechanism that operates according to European standards and strengthens coordination and cooperation in crisis situations. The Government will promote the passage of a bill to establish a National Civil Protection Mechanism, which will institutionalize the role of the National Coordinator. The reform began in 2023 and aims to upgrade the framework for coordination and cooperation for more effective crisis management. In addition, President Christodoulides announced the decision to expropriate land in Polis Chrysochous for the construction of the new Hospital, according to the schedule. At the same time, the establishment of the National Cancer Institute was decided, a pre-election promise and a long-standing request of stakeholders in the health sector. The National Cancer Institute will coordinate actions for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer, as well as the promotion of research in this field in Cyprus. These decisions are part of a broader effort to reform the state and adapt it to modern needs.
