President Christodoulides from Brussels: Full Respect for Denmark's Territorial Integrity – Our Goal is De-escalation without Compromising International Law

President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, stated from Brussels, ahead of the emergency European Council Summit, that Cyprus fully respects the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Kingdom of Denmark. He emphasized that the Republic of Cyprus knows better than any other member state what violation of sovereignty and territorial integrity means. President Christodoulides stated that the goal is to de-escalate the situation, without any compromise on the basic principles of international law. He stressed the need for greater EU autonomy in all areas, including defense, security and energy. He confirmed that Ukraine will be discussed at the Summit, as well as the issue of security guarantees. He rejected the view that US-EU relations have been irreparably damaged, emphasizing the importance of transatlantic cooperation. President Christodoulides stated that the current situation confirms the correctness of Cyprus' approach to strategic autonomy and independence of the EU.
