EU Commissioner Proposes Initiatives to Facilitate Turkish Citizens in Ankara

European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kose put forward a series of initiatives to facilitate the daily lives of Turkish citizens in Ankara. The proposals include Turkey's inclusion in the SEPA payment system, which could save 2-3 billion euros annually in remittance costs, as well as the participation of Turkish citizens in the EU's roaming regime. Ms. Kose stressed the need to align Turkish legislation with the EU acquis, particularly in the field of anti-money laundering. In addition, the modernization of the customs union and the procedures for lifting the visa for Turkish citizens were discussed, with Ms. Kose pointing out that six criteria remain for visa liberalization.
