TOM Warns of Electronically Controlled 'Hidden' Car Door Handles, Risk of Entrapment in Accidents

The Department of Road Transport (TOM) is warning owners of vehicles with electronically controlled or fully integrated ('hidden') door handles about the risk of entrapment in the event of an accident. The warning was issued following incidents abroad where vehicle doors did not open in emergency situations. TOM advises owners to familiarize themselves with the use of the manual release mechanism and to regularly check the condition of the battery. Additionally, it calls on manufacturers to ensure that electronically controlled doors can open even in the event of an accident or power outage.
