Veterinary Services Seek to Clarify Procedures to Livestock Farmers – Timelines and Objectives of Sampling

The Veterinary Services are trying to calm the unrest caused by the obstruction of sampling at a unit in Geri, clarifying the reasons for tracing and sampling. The tracing is being done to identify potential cases before the first outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in the free areas. Sampling is being carried out within and outside the infected zones for epidemiological investigations. The culling of 70 cattle at the infected unit in Geri has been completed, and culling continues in other areas. The Veterinary Services acknowledge that they must be clear to livestock farmers and are trying to dispel their fears.
