Green Light to Starmer Even for Seizure of 'Shadow Russian Fleet' Ships

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has authorized the country's armed forces to inspect, board and even seize ships linked to the so-called 'shadow Russian fleet' passing through British territorial waters. This includes ships involved in circumventing Western sanctions by transporting Russian oil. The 'shadow Russian fleet' consists of old tankers with opaque ownership structures, used to transport Russian oil bypassing international sanctions. It is estimated that they transport up to 75% of Russian oil internationally, funding the Russian economy. This decision marks a transition from simply monitoring sanctions to actively enforcing them, with potential ship seizures or legal action. However, it carries the risk of escalating tensions with Russia. Starmer stated that this move would deprive 'Putin's war machine of the dirty profits that fund his barbaric campaign'.
