Nikos Sykas Removed from DISY's Electoral Ballot

The Political Bureau of the Democratic Rally (DISY) has decided to remove Nikos Sykas from the party's electoral ballot for the May 2026 parliamentary elections. The decision followed a vote where 75 members voted in favor of his removal, 9 against, and one vote was invalid. The president's proposal for a unanimous decision without a vote was not accepted. Efforts were made to persuade Sykas to voluntarily withdraw his candidacy to avoid an unpleasant process for the party, but these efforts were unsuccessful. Andreas Michaelides will take Sykas's place on the Limassol ballot. The voting process highlights internal disagreements regarding Sykas's case. The majority of the Political Bureau members appear to consider his removal necessary, despite the objections raised. This decision marks a significant development ahead of the parliamentary elections and is expected to influence the party's dynamics in the Limassol electoral district.
