EU Prepares €93 Billion in Tariffs on US Products

The European Union is preparing to impose tariffs on US products worth €93 billion, in response to the potential imposition of tariffs by Donald Trump on EU member states, the United Kingdom, and Norway. This move is linked to Trump's pressure to acquire Greenland. The list of products subject to tariffs was drawn up last year but suspended after an agreement. However, this suspension will expire on February 7th unless a majority of member states decide to extend it. Under the agreement, the EU had accepted a 15% tariff on its exports to the US while freezing its own retaliatory measures. However, the 50% tariffs on steel and aluminum remain in effect. The products expected to be most affected include Boeing aircraft, cars, bourbon, soybeans, Harley-Davidson motorcycles, Levi's jeans, and Lucky Strike cigarettes. European authorities are choosing products that can be easily replaced from other markets to limit consumer dissatisfaction.
