POBEC: Despite Price Increases, Holidays 'Warmed Up' the Market

POBEC reports that the holidays and New Year's Eve 'warmed up' the market, with movement in stores being satisfactory and better than in previous years. According to the Secretary-General of POBEC, Stefanos Koursaris, the market moved satisfactorily mainly in essential goods, while the drop in temperature also helped other sectors, such as clothing and footwear. Mr. Koursaris estimates that the festive atmosphere and Cypriot mentality contributed to purchases, as did the need for the Christmas and New Year's table. It is also observed that some consumers are waiting for the sales period to make further purchases. Referring to price increases, Mr. Koursaris noted that during such periods, price increases often take a back seat, as consumers try to meet the needs of their families. However, he acknowledges that there is price increases and that some consumers made more conservative purchases. Overall, POBEC believes that the holidays were a good and satisfactory period for the market, despite the economic difficulties faced by some consumers. The organization expects the sales period to give a new boost to the market.
