Cypriot-Flagged Ship Stranded in Arabian Gulf

The Deputy Ministry of Shipping is closely monitoring developments in the Strait of Hormuz, where a Cypriot-flagged ship is stranded. Deputy Minister Marina Hadjimanoli stated that the cruise sector in Cyprus has not been affected so far, but the impact on the supply chain will depend on the duration of the conflict. It is estimated that around 1,000 ships and 20,000 sailors are in the area, with 19 ships under the Cypriot flag operating there, providing mainly specialized services. Only one ship is awaiting departure when conditions permit. There are no coordinated proposals for escorting ships, but Cyprus is cooperating with its European partners for diplomatic solutions. The International Maritime Council is holding an emergency meeting on the safety of sailors in the area. Cyprus expresses its solidarity with the countries of the Arabian Gulf and is monitoring potential delays in the transport of goods. If the situation continues, there may be an impact, but Cyprus has little dependence on these areas. Measures are also being considered to address potential impacts on the energy sector.
