Signature Certification: Agreement Between Real Estate Association and Tax Commissioner

The Real Estate Development Association and the Cyprus Tax Commissioner, Sotiris Markidis, have reached a consensus on the directive for signature certification on real estate contracts, which will be implemented from January 1, 2026. The directive requires certified signatures on contracts for the issuance of tax exemption certificates. The President of the Association, Yannis Misirlis, highlighted the potential difficulties that may arise, especially in international transactions, due to the time-consuming process of signature certification by Cypriot diplomatic missions. The Tax Commissioner expressed his willingness to review the issue and seek more appropriate procedures. There was a positive response to the Association's proposal that the submission of the sale agreement to the Land Registry be sufficient for verification, without requiring a certified signature. The Association reaffirmed its readiness to contribute to the formulation of workable procedures that will ensure the legality of transactions and the smooth functioning of the real estate market.
