MP Calls for Dismissal of Cyprus Youth Organisation Board - "Inability to Deliver"

The Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Education, Pavlos Mylonas, has called for the dismissal of the Board of Directors of the Cyprus Youth Organisation (ONEK), expressing the view that it is unable to produce work. During the second discussion of the Organisation's budget, Mr. Mylonas mentioned conflicts between the Board members and the administration, as well as an inability to function effectively. MP for DISY, Giorgos Karoulas, stressed the need to clearly define the goals and priorities of ONEK, pointing out the insufficient consultation with youth organisations and the need for collective decision-making. The Committee requested that the Organisation improve its consultation with youth. Furthermore, Mr. Karoulas mentioned the need to consider the Organisation's actions in relation to the municipal and community councils of the occupied territories, emphasising the support of displaced youth and the promotion of the national cause. MP for AKEL, Christos Christofides, expressed concern about the existence of many unanswered questions regarding the budget and operation of the Organisation, requesting clarification on the case of employee Yannis Yannakis and the seconded executive secretary to the Presidential Palace, whom he accused of functioning as an election campaign team.
