PASYKAF: Pan-Cypriot Awareness Campaign for Colorectal Cancer

PASYKAF is launching a pan-Cypriot awareness campaign for colorectal cancer, aiming to prevent and detect the disease early. The campaign is under the patronage of the Ministry of Health and is carried out in collaboration with the Cyprus Gastroenterological and Oncology Societies. PASYKAF emphasizes the importance of early recognition of symptoms, such as changes in bowel habits, blood in the stool, persistent abdominal discomfort, and unexplained weight loss. Risk factors include age over 45, family history, and an unhealthy lifestyle. Colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer in Cyprus, but early diagnosis can increase the chances of successful treatment to up to 90%. PASYKAF encourages citizens to participate in the Population Screening Program, which offers free screening with a FIT test for people aged 50-74. Adopting a healthy lifestyle, with regular exercise, a balanced diet, and avoiding smoking and alcohol, can reduce the risk of cancer by up to 40%. PASYKAF’s campaign aims to inform and raise awareness among the public about the prevention and early detection of colorectal cancer.
