The European Commission today delivered 500,000 doses of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) vaccine, type SAT1, to the authorities of the Republic of Cyprus. The doses are intended for vaccination activities in areas where the Republic of Cyprus does not exercise effective control. The vaccines were provided by the European vaccine bank as emergency aid to strengthen animal immunity and reduce the risk of disease transmission. This initiative contributes to the protection of farmers, animal health, and the limitation of the spread of the disease in Cyprus and the wider region. The Commission will continue to monitor the epidemiological situation in Cyprus and assess further needs to ensure effective disease management. The delivery of the vaccines is a significant support for the protection of agriculture and animal production in Cyprus.
