500,000 Doses of Foot-and-Mouth Disease Vaccine Delivered to Turkish Cypriots

500,000 doses of foot-and-mouth disease vaccine delivered by the European Commission to the Republic of Cyprus have been handed over to the Turkish Cypriots via the Bi-Communal Technical Committee on Health. The delivery took place at the Ledra Palace checkpoint. The Veterinary Services of the Republic of Cyprus have conducted the necessary checks for any cases in the free areas, with negative results. The doses are intended for the vaccination of small ruminants, such as sheep and goats. However, the Veterinary Services do not have a picture of the situation in the occupied areas, as the Turkish Cypriots do not provide information beyond the vaccinations carried out in three cattle farms in Lapathos. The origin of the cases in these farms remains unknown. The Republic of Cyprus is implementing surveillance measures along the ceasefire line to address the situation and continues to monitor developments.
