On Wednesday, the Fire Service responded to two consecutive calls for the rescue of stranded individuals in the Avakas Gorge in Paphos. The first call involved 26 people who were trapped in a river while hiking. Firefighters rescued them using ropes and lifebuoys, ensuring everyone was in good health. Hours later, a second call came in for five more stranded people. Three were found in the water and rescued, while the other two managed to get out of the gorge on their own. In total, 31 people needed rescue, but all are in good condition. The operation was completed successfully, confirming the effectiveness of the Fire Service in emergency situations. The incident highlights the risks involved in hiking in gorges, especially after rainfall, and the need for caution and adherence to safety instructions.
