Pedro Martins on the situation in Qatar: “There were missiles, but I feel safe so far”

Pedro Martins, former coach of Olympiacos and current coach of Al-Gharafa in Qatar, commented on the situation in the Middle East and the ongoing war. He stated that there were missile launches towards Doha, but Qatar’s air defense system managed to intercept most of them, while the rest did not explode in the city. Mr. Martins said he feels relatively safe as the authorities warn of attacks with two types of alarms (yellow and red). He added that the quality of the information he receives from the Qatari government and the Portuguese embassy in Riyadh is good, which contributes to his peace of mind. Despite the concerns, residents continue to move around the streets and make their daily purchases, although the authorities advise them to limit their movements. Mr. Martins expresses his belief that things will return to normal, as relations between Qatar and Iran are usually good. He does not plan to leave the country for the time being, despite the fact that the airspace has been closed. Some Portuguese are trying to travel to Saudi Arabia to return to Portugal, however, he prefers to remain in Qatar.
