Forestry Officials Involved in Poaching Party

The Game and Fauna Service has reported a new poaching incident involving a Forestry Department official. The official's vehicle, who works at the Kampou Forest Station, was found camouflaged near a prohibited hunting area. An administrative fine of €3,300 was imposed. The Game and Fauna Service expresses serious concern about the recurrence of poaching incidents involving forestry officials, who exploit their position to hunt in remote areas where controls are limited. A previous case involved the poaching of hares in the communities of Kouklia and Timi, with two of the three suspects being employees of the Forestry Department. The Game and Fauna Service has recently reported several cases of illegal activity, such as hunting in prohibited areas and the deliberate release of hunting dogs to drive out game. The General Directorate of Environment of the Ministry of Agriculture is expected to convene a meeting to examine the serious issue and take measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
