Call to Freeze Rent Increases for Artists in Turkish Cypriot Properties

The Parliamentary Committee on Refugees is requesting a freeze on rent increases for artists operating in Turkish Cypriot properties at the "Mediterranean" Artists' Park in Larnaca. This decision is being made in light of potential rent increases and aims to support the artists' continued presence in the area, while avoiding issues of unequal treatment. The area has gained particular cultural and tourist significance, hosting displaced artists who have created a unique cultural product. There is concern about potential increases of up to 80%, while the new regulatory framework provides for increases of up to 60% for commercial leases. The Committee calls for cooperation between the Municipality of Larnaca, ETAP, the Deputy Ministry of Culture and the Deputy Ministry of Tourism to find a solution.
