Energy Minister to Chair EU Transport Council

The Minister of Energy, Commerce and Industry, Michalis Damianou, will chair today’s session of the Transport, Telecommunications and Energy Council (Energy) in Brussels, as part of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the European Union. The agenda includes a discussion on the “European Networks Package,” which concerns the revision of the regulation on trans-European energy infrastructure and the Directive on permitting procedures. In addition, the Council will examine the progress of the action plan for affordable energy, presented by the European Commission a year ago. There will be a presentation by the interim Director of the Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators (ACER) on developments in the EU’s internal energy market. The Energy Ministers will participate in a working lunch on the subject of accelerating investments in clean energy to strengthen European competitiveness. Representatives of the European Investment Bank will also participate in the discussion. The Council’s work will conclude with a plenary session, where views will be exchanged on promoting energy security through the further integration of European energy systems. The Ministers of Energy of Ukraine and Moldova will also participate in the discussion, offering experiences from their countries.
