Trump Warns Iran Against Executing Protester: "Very Strong Action" Will Be Taken

Former US President Donald Trump has warned Iran that it will face “very strong action” if it proceeds with the execution of 26-year-old Iranian protester Erfan Soltani. Soltani was arrested during recent anti-government protests and his execution is expected today. Trump cited the US operation in Venezuela and the killing of Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi as examples of previous US actions. The Norwegian organization Hengaw reports that Soltani’s trial was rigged and his family was not informed transparently. Furthermore, human rights organizations claim that Soltani did not have access to legal defense and that even a relative who is a lawyer was prevented from taking on the case. Trump called on Iranian protesters to continue their demonstrations, promising that “murderers and abusers” will be held accountable.
