Lebanese Army Completes First Phase of Hezbollah Disarmament at Border

The Lebanese army announced the completion of the first phase of its plan to disarm Hezbollah in the border area with Israel and along the Litani River. The first phase focused on controlling the area and ensuring the removal of weapons not belonging to state forces. In its statement, the army emphasized that it will continue its operations to process unexploded ordnance and locate tunnels dug by armed groups. The goal is to definitively prevent the rebuilding of armed groups. The ceasefire agreement that ended the 2024 war stipulates that only the Lebanese army is allowed to carry weapons in the southern region. However, Hezbollah refuses to hand over its weapons, despite pressure from the US and Israel. Israel still occupies five strategic points near the border and is carrying out attacks against Hezbollah, accusing it of attempting to rearm. The Lebanese army faces difficulties in implementing the disarmament plan, as Israel questions its effectiveness.
