President of Cyprus Presents Priorities of EU Presidency to European Parliament

The President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, will today present the priorities of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU to the European Parliament in Strasbourg. The presentation will take place before the Plenary and will be accompanied by a bilateral meeting with the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, and a joint press conference. The Cypriot Presidency will focus on strengthening Europe's strategic autonomy, resilience and competitiveness, within a framework of increased geopolitical challenges. The central message of the presidency is “A Sovereign Union. Open to the World”. President Christodoulides will emphasize the importance of respecting international law, the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all states, and the defense of European values. He will also refer to the EU's steadfast support for Ukraine. Furthermore, emphasis will be placed on the role of Cyprus as a bridge between the EU and the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East, promoting a more active and strategic European presence in the region to promote stability and cooperation.
