Ocalan Calls on Turkey to Facilitate Kurdish Agreement in Syria

Published December 30, 2025, 11:25

Abdullah Ocalan, the historical leader of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), has called on Turkey to facilitate an agreement between the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and Damascus. Ocalan's message, published by the pro-Kurdish DEM party, comes shortly before the deadline for implementing the agreement to integrate Kurdish forces into Syrian institutions. Ocalan emphasized the importance of Turkey's role as a mediator to promote dialogue and achieve regional peace. He considered the agreement between the SDF and Damascus as a democratic model that allows peoples to govern together. The March agreement provides for the integration of Kurdish institutions into the central authority and the inclusion of Kurdish military forces into the Syrian army. However, the implementation of the agreement has stalled. The leader of the Syrian Kurds, Mazloum Abdi, assured that he is making efforts to prevent the failure of the agreement, while Ankara is calling on the Kurds to implement the agreement and warning that the partners are 'losing patience'.
