Odysseas Konstantinoupolous Resigns as MP After Expulsion from PASOK

Odysseas Konstantinoupolous, a Member of Parliament for Arcadia representing PASOK, announced his resignation shortly after being expelled from the party's parliamentary group by a decision of Nikos Androulakis. This resignation marks an escalation in the already strained relationship between the MP and the PASOK leadership. In a message to Nikos Androulakis, Mr. Konstantinoupolous expressed his belief that MPs owe it to the people and the party that elected them, while also stating that he always aligned with the party's majority during his term. He informed that he will request the President of the Parliament to give him the opportunity to deliver his final speech during the election of the new Vice-President of the Parliament on behalf of PASOK, whom he will vote for. The resignation will be finalized immediately after the election of the new Vice-President, which is expected next week. Evangelos Giannakouras is the first substitute in the Arcadia constituency. The conflict between Konstantinoupolous and Androulakis had been brewing for some time, partly due to the candidate nominated by the PASOK president in the previous elections in Arcadia, against the MP's preferences. Despite the fact that Mr. Konstantinoupolous was a close associate of Nikos Androulakis and contributed to his election as party leader, their relationship had deteriorated some time ago. Mr. Konstantinoupolous has been a Member of Parliament for Arcadia since 2009 and during his term he has never voted against any bill or proposal of PASOK, maintaining a consistent stance towards the party. His resignation is a significant event for PASOK, as it loses an experienced MP and a close associate of Nikos Androulakis.
