Trump Remains Silent on Use of Force to Acquire Greenland

Donald Trump avoided directly answering a question from NBC News about whether he would use force to acquire Greenland, simply responding with “No comment.” The former president reiterated his criticism of Europe, arguing that it should focus on Ukraine and not Greenland, and confirmed his intention to impose tariffs on European countries if an agreement is not reached for the US to purchase Greenland. He also questioned the impartiality of Norway in the Nobel Peace Prize selection process. French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot responded to Trump's statements, emphasizing that the US “vitally needs” Europe, reversing the American president's argument. Barrot warned that Europe must be resolute in defending its interests against US pressure, especially on issues such as democracy and borders. The French Minister cited Europe's economic strength, pointing out that a quarter of the revenue of major tech companies comes from Europe and that Eurozone countries hold significantly more assets than the US in Europe. He also stressed that no one wins from a trade war and that Europe has tools to protect its interests. European leaders have scheduled an emergency meeting on Thursday to discuss Trump's threats regarding Greenland and tariffs, indicating growing concern in Europe about US policy.
