Unanimous 'No' from EEY to Panagiotou – Minister of Agriculture Excluded from the List of Appointees

The Educational Service Commission (EEY) today unanimously rejected the request of Ms. Panagiotou for an exemption due to public interest regarding her appointment in public education, according to information from Politis. As a result, her name is not included in the revised lists published today. According to the same information, there were interventions from the Presidential Palace and members of the Council of Ministers, not from the Minister of Agriculture, with the aim of granting Ms. Panagiotou a second extension. Ms. Panagiotou was initially appointed as a philology teacher, but had submitted a request for suspension due to her ministerial position, which had been approved. Legislation provides for the suspension of appointments mainly in cases of health, studies or special circumstances, but the EEY may consider other requests on a case-by-case basis. Ms. Panagiotou had submitted a second request for suspension, which was however rejected by the EEY. She retains the right to appeal the EEY's decision within 15 days.
