European Parliament Lifts Immunity of Nikos Pappas and Gregor Braun

The Plenary of the European Parliament decided to lift the immunity of MEPs Nikos Pappas and Gregor Braun, following separate votes. In the case of Nikos Pappas, the decision was based on a request from the Prosecutor's Office of the Supreme Court for alleged acts of defamation and insult. The Parliament ruled that the offenses were not linked to the exercise of his parliamentary duties. Regarding Gregor Braun, the lifting of his immunity relates to multiple offenses allegedly committed in Poland, including the removal of flags and the denial of genocide. The European Parliament emphasized that it does not function as a court and that the lifting of immunity does not imply an accusation, but simply allows national authorities to investigate the cases.
