Parliament Approves KOA Budget - Details of the Amounts

The plenary session of the Parliament approved the budget of the Cyprus Sports Organization (KOA) amounting to €60,641,150 for 2026. The budget is balanced, with revenues and expenses amounting to the same amount. Revenues mainly come from state grants, revenues from sports facilities, the National Betting Authority and other sources. During the discussion, MPs expressed different views regarding the management of the KOA and the need for institutional restart. Alexandra Attalidou opposed the vote on the budget, while Christos Senekis mentioned the sensitivity of the KOA Board of Directors towards refugee clubs. Alekos Tryfonidis emphasized the importance of developing sports for the health and safety of young people. Also discussed was the need to apply the code of ethics and transparency to federations, the use of school premises for sports activities, and the promotion of the design and reconstruction of the Makarios Stadium. Sotiris Ioannou mentioned the benefits of sports for youth and addressing social problems, while Michalis Yakoumi suggested finding more resources for sports. Christos Orphanides stated that the state's revenues from sports are many times greater than state grants, while Andreas Kavkalias referred to the need for new sports legislation. Savvia Orphanidou emphasized the importance of the role of the KOA and the need to support other sports besides football.
