Olguin: Insufficient Progress on Confidence-Building Measures – What She Will Discuss with Erhurman

The Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary-General, Maria Angela Holguin, stated on Tuesday that there has been insufficient progress on the issue of Confidence-Building Measures (CBMs) between the two communities in Cyprus. This makes it difficult to convene a comprehensive conference on the Cyprus issue. Ms. Holguin met with President Christodoulides and will later meet with the Turkish Cypriot leader Erhurman, hoping to achieve progress. The upcoming meeting of the two leaders will focus on methodology and the four points that Erhurman put on the table a few months ago. Holguin emphasized that without progress on CBMs, it is very difficult to organize a 5+1 meeting.
